Mystery Fruit/Veggie

This "popped" up in my mom's garden. We are wondering what it is...?
Anyone know or any guesses?
Thank you in advance! Ginger

Do you mean "popped up" as in volunteered, Ginger? In other words, no one planted the seed that you know of.

Many gourds, summer squash, some winter squash and most pumpkins are Cucurbita pepo. They may all cross pollinate.

The resultant offspring is often not very useful to the gardener.

Yes Steve, it's a volunteer indeed! So probably no uses except for decoration, huh?
