Jim,
Have you grown Utah Yellow Sweet Spanish onions? Local stores like to sell Yellow Granex seed here even though the daylength is wrong. They did have seed for the Utahs but no Walla Walla, so that's what I'm trying.

Yes, that is the variety I usually plant. They do well here. I think you will like them. The Big Daddy onions do well too.

Very interesting reading. I did note that you direct seed so your timing would be different than folks who grow their own transplants.

Now that I have raised beds in place, I will be able to get some things started outside next year- sure would save a lot of space under the lights!

I will print out your tips and keep them with my notes for next year's garden.

Great article, Jal! I really enjoyed it.

I especially like you to differentiated between planing onion seeds and onion sets and transplants. You will indeed get bigger bulbs by planting the latter two rather than the former......at least I do, anyway .
