Hello and welcome to my thread of gardening for the 2011 season. Been out of the loop for a year and moved to this new place and I thought id give this gardening this a try once again. We started this by going to Home Depot and purchasing 4 2x10x8's and screwing them together. Then we dug up the ground to place the wood in. Then we bought lots of gardening soil and top soil to fill it in abit. The same day we bought 2 tomato plants.(2 cherry 100's and 2 Beefsteak.) Some cucumber,Broccoli and peppers. These were all planted April 24th when I thought we wouldnt have anymore frost.. Yesterday we purchased some red and yellow onions,Squash, and zuchinni. Everything is now planted in the bed. I kno its gonna be tight but I'm hopeing to do some extensive training with the zuchinni plants when they get bigger.. I did grow this before and I do know they get to be around 5-6ft long.. My plan is to tie it down to the top of the border around my garden. So here comes so pics from the making til now. Any suggestions would be great and are greatly appreciated! Cages for the tomato and cucumbers and coming shortly..

Very nice! Are you going to put a path down the middle, where it is over the sidewalk? Otherwise how are you going to get to everything to weed, etc?

If it were me, I would dig all the dirt back off the sidewalk and pile it on the rest of the bed. That will make the rest deeper and then you can just use the sidewalk for a path. You aren't going to want to plant right over it anyway.

Looks good.
Rainbow, I think the bed frame was temporarily on the sidewalk.

Yes, RBG will be shaking her head when she looks again. :P Just poking a little fun!
Even though it is not over the sidewalk, her recommendation with a path is a good one.

Splat, That looks good. You can add more soil / amendments over the years. Bring the soil line right up to the top of the box.

@doubledog.. I do plan on bringing on more soil when funds alot it.. the soil I bought there cost me around 50 bucks. Ill wait til half the garden starts growing and filler up. That will bring healthier plants when I cover half the stems with good soil.

About the path.. its kinda to late ill just have to make my way threw it all for now.. Next year ill keep that in mind lol.

You could devise a system with a plank or some type of bridge that you could use for a walkway above/between the plants. That way, you cold have a pathway, but still be able to make use of the whole space for growing.

Great looking garden.
