Those are really nifty looking, runner1212! What do you do, just cut off the bottoms? I might need to do that for my tomato seedlings. As the plants grow, I am up-potting them, and I am now out of room under my fluorescent lights. I do have a mini-bay window in my kitchen. I might move my four biggest tomatoes there.

Then again, they might be wider than a 2-liter bottle. What happens then?

Plastic 1-gallon milk jugs? Just a thought, but they are an available resource in need of re-use.

We have had high winds and heavy cold rain alot here lately,so the tops of these plants are protected from being snapped, its not a bad way to go.

I put holes into the bottoms and sides for drainage, then I painted the bottoms black for heat.cut mid-section pieces so to expand them.then I used tape to hold it together.CUTTING THE 2-LITERS SHOULD BE DONE BY AN ADULT ONLY!,cutting these could EASILY injure someone.

your that wide? can you post pics? I think I would just put anchor screws on the trim, then stretch a bungee cord acrossed to hold them in.(its what I did)

You might consider that they're not getting "enough excercise" to strengthen the stems and toughen them up when covered and protected from air flow or physical contact....

That said, I use them for starting seeds and protecting seedlings outside very early in the season -- I use the upper portion with bottoms cut off, using the cap to regulate temp.

Mine are close to going outside, permanently. If I can get one bed done by, say, Wednesday, I could put them outside under walls of water. However, I have peppers quickly outgrowing their baby pots, so timing will be everything. Once the peppers have to be repotted, I'll have to resort to the bay window for the tomatoes, which is going to make them all spindly.

When the weather is good, I take the trays outside. It just now hit 45 outside. The sun is shining. There is a breeze, not a wind. If every day was like this one, I'd have no problems at all

Timing will be everything over the next three weeks, as I begin bed preparation for the summer!

Those are pretty nice! I'll bet the protect the plants from any frost when there is a threat.

The one thing I might worry about though is if the plants get damping-off when they are seedlings. However, I'll bet that if you take the caps off, that would control the humidity.
