zone 5 cool weather question

Hey amigos.

I need some suggestions for cool weather plants. Id like to put some stuff in the garden...swiss chard, kale, spinnach, lettuce, and peas. How do you recommend I.get these going as quickly as possible? Sow seeds into soil? Start from seed inside? or get some started plants and pop them into the ground in the next week or so. If this has been covered recently ...please forgive.

Lettuce comes up pretty fast in cold soil, peas take a little longer. I direct seeded both next to each other about two weeks ago and the lettuce popped up in a few days but the peas are just now showing.
