Here is a good article that discusses the differences between the two and mentions some varieties.

Also this article is pretty good as well.

Hope these help!

For me, the pickler is American Pickling, hands down, and the slicer is Lemon.

I'm growing Eureka Hybrid for pickles.
Marketmore 76 and Fanfare Hybrid for slicers.

I don't have any actual experience with them, but they're supposed to do well in my climate.

Time will tell...

do you like these because of taste? or production? or disease resistance? all of the above? LOL!

All of the above! :() The American Pickler produces spazillions of quite small cukes, which are perfect for the style of dills I prefer, and it doesn't seem to succumb to the moldiness that kills my zucchinis.

The Lemon Cuke is a really fast producer in my heat, but doesn't kakk out, and it's less gassy than regular greenskin slicers (which I appreciate). Plus it's a very unique looking pepo - not cucumberish at all. It's not the heaviest producer, but it's more than enough for me and my neighbours, which is plenty.

I grow both up hand-knotted netting on my garden wall.

I only plant Marketmore. I use it for both slicers and pickling. When picked small they have no seeds, unlike many pickling types which when 4 inches long have mature seeds.

Does anyone have some good pickling recipes? I think I'd like to try making some this year. I like spicy garlic type pickles.
