quick germination question!

Just looked at my pear tree seed I have been germinating. 1 has a decent sized sprout on it. When I plant the seed which direction should the sprout be planted? I am assuming it should be facing down into the soil.

Well,if that sprout looks to have leaves, it should be facing upward; if it looks like a root, it should face downward.

I think that no matter how you plant it, it will grow in the direction that it needs to. When you think about it, we never pay any attention to the orientation of the other vegetable seeds we plant.

Do you plant on grafting this tree when it gets bigger?

Your probably right. I'm just going to throw it in the dirt and see what happens.

As far as grafting probably not. I'm just experimenting with trees right now.

Let me know if it figures out which end is up.

If in doubt about which way is up, just plant it sideways and it should sort itself out. This works for bulbs, corms and the like as well.

Threw in some potting soil on its side yesterday morning and its already coming out of the ground the way it should! I'll have to snap some pics!

I agree. When you read about how the plants and the microbes in the soil all work together to form a mini-ecosystem right in your garden, it makes you realize that plants know a lot better about how they should grow than we do .
