That is a beauty, Jal!

How far are you from Utah's sugar beet fields?

I was surprised to learn not so long ago that Wyoming has sugar beets! There used to be what must have been thousands of acres of sugar beets in central Washington.

The farmers here have stopped growing sugar beets. The sugar factory where they were processed has been shut down. This happened many years ago. I don't know if sugar beets are grown elsewhere in Utah. Sugar beets can be grown in the home garden. I have never tried them, but my son grew some last season.

Here is a short summary of the beet industry in Utah:

Wow, Jal, now that's a beet. That thing is so smooth it looks like you've polished it. I've grown DDR before and they do get pretty big.

Did you son tell you what sugar beets taste like? I've considered growing them, but I'm not sure if they will really taste any different from a regular beet.
