tilling corn stumps

Hello everyone. I've cut my corn stalks down to about 4 inch stumps. I have a heavy duty rototiller, and I was wondering if it's a good idea to till them up? Would I risk damaging my tiller? Tks.

Depends on the tiller. My Troybilt Horse will till standing cornstalks. Twice over pretty much chops them up and buries most of it. Those corn stalks are a lot of organic matter and should be left on the garden.

I wouldn't be worried about the tiller. It'd take a lot to damage one of those.
However, corn stalks are rather woody and tough.
I would pull them out, if possible chop them up a bit, then put them on the compost pile.
Give them a bit of time to decay.

I thoroughly tilled them all in last fall. This spring they were just part of the soil when we planted there. No evidence of it. Didn't hurt the tiller at all.
