What are these spots from?

These are pepper and chile plants. What could these spots be from?

The squiggles are from leaf miner insects, the yellowing is probably from common fungal infection

The squiggles are definitely leaf miners. They burrow in the leaf. Just pull the leaves that have them and trash them (not in compost).

The yellowing which could be as TZ says some fungal disease or might even be just a bit of sunburning if your plants are in full direct So Calif sunshine, you can probably ignore for a little while and see what happens. Right now it doesn't look like enough to really slow your plants down.

No, nematodes are parasites in the soil and attack the roots of crops. They can't be seen with the naked eye but can do a lot of damage to vegetable crop roots.

And all this time I thought those marks on the leaves were from nematodes. :?
