What is this growing on my pumpkin plant?

I was checking my pumpkins leaves because it has powdery mildew so I have been spraying milk with water. Today it had this white ball hanging off one of the vines. First I thought it was a wild mushroom but got a closer look and it broke. I have no idea what it is Any ideas?

Maybe slime mold?

It definitely looks like a fungal disorder of some sort.

Well, if it's slime mold, it won't hurt the plant.

Gross. I'm relieved my plant will be ok. Maybe I'll try by getting rid of it by hand. Thanks for the info.
