What is this growing on my pumpkin plant?

I was checking my pumpkins leaves because it has powdery mildew so I have been spraying milk with water. Today it had this white ball hanging off one of the vines. First I thought it was a wild mushroom but got a closer look and it broke. I have no idea what it is :? Any ideas?

It definitely looks like a fungal disorder of some sort.

Well, if it's slime mold, it won't hurt the plant. :D

Gross. I'm relieved my plant will be ok. Maybe I'll try by getting rid of it by hand. Thanks for the info.
