Carrots ready to pick?

I would like to know from those with experience growing carrots, when you know they are ready to be picked. This is my first year growing them. Right now, the "green" tops are about 6" tall and look very healthy. I am just unsure when I should pull them. Thanks in advance.

Brush the dirt away from the shoulders of a carrot if they look wide enough then they are ready. You can also just pick one and see if they are the size you want them!

I agree...carrots are ready when you're ready , but the longer you leave them, the bigger they'll get.

but you don't want the carrot root tops exposed to the sun, they will turn green like potatoes. Keep the root covered after peeking.
