Pollinate my zucchini with the flower of other squash?

OK, I hope I get a reply soon because I just checked the zucchini this morning and I have the first 2 flowers blooming.....and they're both female.

I do have some male flowers on the early scallop (bush pattypan), bush delicata, and flying saucer (hybrid bush pattypan).

Can I pollinate the female zucchini with a male flow from one of these plants? I know I won't be able to save the seed, but at least I'll get some zucchini.

Thanks a lot.

You certainly can do this; I've done it several times with summer squash that have females open but no males.

Since those are all C. pepo, it should work fine.

Thanks a lot, I'm off to pollinate. I think I'll go with the early pattypans.

Cross pollinating like this will work, but if you save the seeds you might end uo with a funny looking or tasting cross next year. It's kinda funny this same question was in a gardening column in today's paper.
