purple hull peas

growing up my father said to plant purple hull peas in the poorest soil you had. is this true? should you use fertilizer?

Answer: Yes and no.
If you have poor soil, peas (or any legume) will fix nitrogen and can be tilled in to provide organic matter to help improve the soil.
In my garden I plant peas in good rich soil with manure and compost added and still fertilize some.
