Sometimes more male appear then female. Are they getting pollinated? if not you can hand pollinate them, the female always will have the developing fruit (the very start) and male won't have any "lumps" from the stem. So stick a q-tip in the male and rub the pollen on the female flower...

You may not even have any female flowers to be pollinated. One thing to look for are flowers that have a tiny, little squash behind them. These are the female ones, these are the ones that have to get pollinated before you can get a squash. Sometimes the male flower will come out before the female ones.

The male squash blossoms are also edible. There are lots of ways to prepare them. Here are some of them.

Good luck.
