Garden update w/pics and some thoughts

I spent the day topdressing with composted cow manure today! I took some pics this afternoon before the rain and thought I'd share.

Beets, green beans, tomatoes, okra and the jalapenos can be seen.

It started raining right after these pics were taken. That should help get the compost into the soil. I have tomatoes setting on here and there, cukes starting to set on and zukes blooming. Baby green beans are coming on too! :)

Wow, looking great! What kind of squash are the "white squash"? Are they the scallop kind?

Yes, the white scallop kind. I've never grown them and am not sure what to do with them when I harvest some.

We've had over 4" of rain overnight with more expected this afternoon and again tonight. I guess I got the manure watered in! :o

I grew those white scallop summer squash last year, and used it in breads and such. Also you can slice in thin, and saute it with tomatoes, garllic and onions, and put that over pasta, pretty good. I also made several pasta carbonaras with it. I used real parmesan cheese (not the green can), cream, and eggs for the sauce, and tossed in the summer squash and bacon as well, really good!
