When to harvest pole beans?

So my pole beans are producing beans now, and some of them are looking about ready to pick.
I'm curious though, when am I supposed to pick them? What size should I pick them at?
Also, if I want to save the seeds, should I leave the beans on the plant?

Thanks! :D

It will depend a bit on the variety how long the beans will be, but around 4 to 6 inches long. The best indicator is when the little beans inside are 1/4 inch long. Of course you have to pick one and open it to see that.

Yes, if you want seed, leave some pods on the plants until they dry.

If you want to save seeds, leave the beans on until the beans inside the pods become dry and hard. But you may not want to do this on every plant as it tends to slow production.
