Bunching Onions

I am growing bunching onions for the first time. I planted seed and it came up and is looking good. I think these will make some good scallions in another couple of weeks.

Have you ever grown bunching onions? Do you know if they are a perennial like chives? Will they overwinter and bunch out like chives and Egyptian onions?

I think they will overwinter if you leaves the bulbs in the ground, but they may go to seed the next year. I bulb onions will if they are left in the ground until the next season.

That would be OK if they made seed the following year. Yes, regular bulbing onons will make seed the following year. I like to gather the seed for planting. I am growing several onions just for seed this year.
