My Garden belongs to the birds

We have two blue birds who own the garden, they just let me visit. Every now and then we are there at the same time.

In addition to the garden posts, fence, etc they also have laid claim to the frame holding up my hammock

Lucky duck! I'd love to have some blue-birds :)

I do have one of these guys

(not my photo, my birdie is too shy/every time I go towards the birds with the camera a few dogs & a toddler follow me and for some reason the birds fly away...)

It's a rose-breasted grosbeak, he's very pretty & I think I saw his mate today :).

We've also got a few starlings, and an all black bird (no yellow beak) not sure what it is (not a crow! :D smaller), and a few sparrows.

Also some of my favourites:

The goldfinches

and a new visitor the last two days, a little chickadee!

We just set the bird feeder back up a week or so ago, and have been filling it with sunflower seeds, hoping the Jays we had over the winter will come back! :)

Your yard and gardens are beautiful! You have your own little slice of heave there!

I love watching the birds and have lots of feeders out too. I have a pair of goldfinches too, the male is hurt right now, so I've been setting a little bowl of water out for him by the finch feeder. I swear the female is dropping thistle on purpose to help her mate! Too cute. His feathers just look a little ruffled, like maybe he lost a few on one wing, so hopefully he'll be back up to par soon. :) I'd love to have blue birds! I get those stupid cow birds that gobble my suet up like its just a little snack. Grr!

Here on San Juan Island, there is a group of volunteers, repopulating the bluebirds.

Here is the story if interested.

Throw up some more bird houses and feeders and get even more residing near your garden. Why?....Pest control. Honestly, birds are some of the most effective ways to prevent detrimental insects in the garden, though you may occasionally find a hole or two in a tomato.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. We do appreciate the surroundings and try to slow up enough to enjoy them. I am a firm believer that the boats need to be run at least twice a week to keep the batteries strong :D

garden5 you hit my thought exactly. We have been considering other spots for more bird houses. It is really exciting to be that close to the blue birds and realize how vivid are nature's colors. They seem to enjoy the ready access to red worms as well.

I second what garden5 said. the more birds you have, the more pest control you have. even the small birds come up and pick aphids off plants. the big ones go for caterpillars and grasshoppers.
