Looking good James as always. Now that is a head of lettuce, I thought mine were big but they are about half to a 1/4 of that.

I love the comment about the rhubarb. "It's just for show". Just like me I plant thing just to watch them grow as well. I am going to let my lettuce up front in my flower garden go to flower just to see what it looks like.

Funny thing about my flower garden is 90% of what is growing I transplanted or planted the seed. Most everything I bought for the "flower garden" part has died off a long time ago.

I have a small patch of spinach that I've tried my hand at twice and still nothing to get excited about. My uncle suggested I cover them with a cloth and keep it wet, and it should help. We'll see. BTW, I'm in zone 6a.

Hilling up the potatoes.

sassyjvg, that spinach looks like it just needa a bit more time. Spinach likes to grow in the early spring while the weather is cool. It is one of the earliest things planted here. If it doesn't make it now with the warm weather, try again very early next year. You could probably plant in early March. If your spinach starts to bolt, pick all the bigger leaves and use them. You will then get something for your effort.

Gorgeous lettuce. I can never get my greens to NOT have bug holes in them. Your rhubarb looks nice too.. I was wondering if you had advice on starting a rhubarb plant? I LOVE rhubarb. My rhubarb pie will knock yer socks off (excuse my modesty :) ), but I have to buy it from a local grower. My great-grandma grew her own. She is also the one that gave me the 'knock yer socks off' recipe. I'd love to be able to do it just like her! : )

My beets looked as good as yours and, apparently, the deer thought so too . Now, they don't look like much, but I think I'll still get some beets out of them.

Buy a rhubarb plant from a nursery. Sometimes the Big Box stores will have them too. You need to dedicate a spot for it at least 5 feet diameter. They do get large. Full sun. If you have room get two. They are easy to grow. Fertile soil, mulch etc.

The weather has been so cool here that things are really lagging behind. The squash and corn are finally having a growth spurt.

The peas may make it yet. Usually they are ready by June 10. Things are sure slow this year.

But I am a little boy. Unfortunately, I seem to be captive in a tired, worn out old body.......................

John, I have a large family. They have all flown the nest. I grow much more than the wife and I need. The kids get some. Neighbors and friends get some. I sell a little bit at the farmer's market. That is a social event. One never makes any money at it.

Next year, I am going to cut the veggie garden in half. (Every time my wife hears me say that, she just giggles............ ya, ya.........)

The neighbors are pretty good to keep their cows in.
The lion got the deer.
The cat harasses the rodents.
I share with the birds and bugs.
Skunks have been my biggest problem. Traps.

There seem to be quite a few cougars on my boat dock. They don't bother me because of my advanced state of geezerfication. I also have my wife to protect me. She's pretty territorial.

Jal-Ut, it looks like you must weed 24 hours a day. We get good yields but in addition to sharing with bees and birds, we share with the weeds. By mid July, I just give up on weeding. I can't do it in the 100 degree heat.

Beautiful garden my friend.

You had be going as well with the lion......but then I though about it and figured it was just regional slang for a mountain lion.....then you posted and it turns out I was right.

You said you have skunks....what crops do they bother? Corn?
