When to Harvest broccoli

My first head of broccoli is coming up....it is 4 inches in diameter. I have heard that you need to keep an eye on these as they may bolt. When should I harvest this top head.

P.S. - I noticed today for the first time that the side shoots are starting.

If its Decicco Broccoli I would say harvest it now. Keep a close eye on it, how hot has it been lately. Make sure dirt is moist at all times...

I would like to say that if the side shoots are forming than the head is probably ready. The side shoots normally show up after harvesting the head.

I think that if you cut them off low to the ground more shoots will develop that you can then harvest after a while.
