Radicchio not germinating

I've just been throwing it into the dirt, but it's a new plant to me so I'm probably missing something. None of my radicchio has germinated. Any suggestions?

There was radicchio in the mesclun mix I planted last year. Since they were mostly lettuce, I sowed somewhat shallowly -- no more than 1/4" of soil on top, maybe even less, and pushed the round seeds which I believe were radicchio and arugula into the soil a little more. Is it getting hot where you are? I planted them in earlier 1/2 of spring. Otherwise, just keep moist for the first week (water every day). I planted at the lower end of my sloped bed where it retains moisture a little better.
