Horseradish planting question

I just acquired a huge HRadish root. I have never grown this before and am planning on doing it in a pot so it doesn't take over my yard. I have heard to plant them at a 45 degree angle. But what I'm really wondering is if I should trim this root up a bit first it is pretty huge.

I would not plant it in a pot, it won't take over your yard. Ours has been in the same place for 3 years and behaves very nicely.
