Can anyone help me out and let me know why there is a mouse in my garden digging holes around the garden. Ive seen him at night so I know its a mouse it seems like he diggs around the root areas of the plants. Ive never heard of a mouse doing this.

Maybe eating grubs or other larvae in the ground. You better git that mouse out of there before he moves his attention to your almost ripe tomatoes.

Are you sure it isn't a little shrew? In your area, it would probably be the Ornate shrew. They're carnivorous, eating earthworms, snails, slugs, and all kinds of insects. They look like mice, but have pointier noses. Shrews are always welcome in my garden. :)

I think I have some too - Dogs went berserk last night - I let them out and they dashed to the garden. Something must of have been around.

(I haven't been letting them outside for too long as it's wet and cold here)

I noticed a few days ago little holes in the garden bed and I figured the squirrels were in it....

I can't wait for this weather to clear up, my dogs need the exercise and I need my yard monitored - Raccoon got into our trash in the evening a few days ago. If the dogs were out, the raccoon finds another home to get dinner.

Well, if you put compost in your planting holes (or in your garden in general) that has food scraps in it that were not completely decomposed, you will attract mice and other rodents.

I don't know if I have shrews in are area. but it would make sense. I didnt think mice made holes like this but what do I know, lol. He is allways out at nite and fast like a mouse so its hard to see in detail if its a mouse or shrew.

Best solution for shrews? Barn cats ;). Miss Kitty is a shrew-specialist, in fact she doesn't go after house-mice they are too boring .

Seriously though - shrews are NASTY buggers, they will bite you right back!! (I've seen them leap straight for my cat's face after she's caught & wounded them - she really enjoys toying with them...) So be careful.
