Garlic scapes?

I have 2 elephant garlic bulbs growing and the scape had started to grow and I thought I read to cut them immediatly so the plant can focus all it's energy on the bulb. So I did that this afternoon. So now after further investigAtion I read that you aren't supposed to cut them until they have looped at least once or twice...mine didn't even start to loop yet. Did I just destroy my garlic? Ah! I'm so angry at myself!

Tiny,

No, you just missed out on the full garlic scape. Now just wait until 40-60 to harvest. 40% brown bottom, 60% green top.

I had to go look up garlic scape.

Seems it does no more than garlic chives would do, so nothing much lost.

I have a goofy question! Does garlic grow above or in the ground?

In the ground like other onion family
