winecap mushrooms

Has anyone every planted winecap mushrooms. I tried my hand at it last year in the woods behind our house, but the deer and turkey got to them as soon as they would come up. this year I am going to try again with peg spawn right in with the onions I planted in a shaded flower bed against the house...just wonder if anyone has any suggestions... :?

Oooh! Keep us posted on how they do. I would put up a rabbit fence myself since I hear all kinds of wildlife like mushrooms. I'm trying to grow oyster mushrooms in "straw/sawdust in corrugated cardboard and mulched with straw" beds in two different locations. I'm a bit concerned about one of them because I found an obvious hole in the side of the pile. If it's a mole, it should be OK, but if it's a mouse, then, ... who knows? I don't want to open the bed to check for fear of disrupting the mycelia.
