Square Foot Garden Question

This year I am doing a 3x3ft just for cucumbers, and also a 3x5ft and 4x5ft.

For the 3x5ft and 4x5ft is it better to put multiple types of vegtables in each square foot or focus on 1 or 2 types of plants each.

Thoughts?

I have to take photo of my garden - I have crazy mixtures in each bed, but I would say at least mix your main veggies with some french marigolds, onion, garlic, chives or other companion plants to confuse the bugs.

According to Mel (and to my own experience), you can plant a different veggie in each square foot, as long as it doesn't need more than 1 sq. ft. of growing space.

He has a table in the back of the book to let you know whether it's X plants per square or Y squares per plant.

You can also "cheat" a little bit, like I did, and plant your sprawling veggies in the squares on the side of the box and let them trail over the side. This is how I got two huge zucchini plants in 2008 (no zukes in 2009, though; weather was too cool) out of three squares.
