I started seedlings for the 1st time this weekend. I have them in a room above the garage which gets very hot during the day, the thermostat tops out at 80 and it seems like it is in the 90's up there. I have the thermostat set at 70 at night and the heat is on in the mornings (outside gets into the 40's at night). Should I be worried about the temp during the day?

I tried to germinate some squash and cucumber seed in the soil late last summer. The soil temp was fine and the seeds germinated well. When they were exposed to the mid to high 90's air temps, they would just lay over and die. A couple of plants did survive the heat and grew three or four inches before dieing. At first I thought I had a soil or insect problem, but it wasn't. It was just the heat and humidity that killed them. The night time temps were not offering much relief staying in the low to mid 80's.
