Arugula and kale zone 8

Just picked a nice basket of arugula as a salad to go with pasta tonight. Also snipped a nice bunch of chives which are growing vigorously. Arugula and kale are pretty close to year round vegetables here in zone eight. Both will produce at least 9-10 months per year, only fading during the hottest period of the summer and slowing to almost no growth during the coldest part of the winter. Fall panted arugula and kale will explode into growth during only very brief warm spells during false spring or early spring.

One of three red Russian kale plantings:

One of three Georgia collard plantings. I think that these so called Georgia collards are actually a variety of kale or very similar to it.

Overwintered arugula is not very impressive although I did havest a nice batch this evening. The winter was much colder than normal and the kale is already going to seed. The first spring planting of kale is already in the ground.
