Well heres my harvest everyone! Thanks so much for showing so much interest! Everybody should do it! :D Oh and they were amazing! I left them whole and sauteed them in a little grape seed oil, and salt and pepper. That was it. They were huge and meaty and deliciously amazing! I'm drying my block out currently then restart it again for another rush. They say the 2nd is better than the first. I cant wait!

I wanna grow some just cause they look cool. Eating them won't be my priority.

You can do a few things with mushrooms after they "fruit" besides eating them fresh:
(1) collect their spores and learn to culture them to maturity -- properly dried spores last so you can do the collecting before you know what to do with them. Just learn to collect them clean.
(2) dry them, then pulverize in a coffee grinder. Use spoonfuls as umami base/seasoning
(3) collect stem butts and caps and layer them in moistened straw or fresh woodchip/straw mulch heap outside and see if they'll grow (haven't tried this myself, but sounds cool -- I have similar experiments going on outside, however)

But I still think eating them is the best. :() My blocks are coming back with new primordia (baby mushrooms). Can't wait!

What a gorgeous looking cluster! Literally drooling! I grew up in the area where we gathered wild mushrooms deep in the forest in the fall, and absolutely love mushrooms.

For many years I wanted to try to grow them at home, I think this would be the year I'd finally give it a try.

Regards,
D
