Leeks in the snow

My poor leeks are being abused! We have 18" of snow here, and it's about -10c outside, but the leeks are still alive! I keep having to dig them out of the ice, granted, but they're still alive at least. Anyone else?

I got some leeks outside, and are under 2 feet of snow, and it is -25 degrees outside, in good ol' South Dakota. This is the most snow I have ever seen. Anyway, they are frozen...I didn't harvest all of them before winter...darn it. I tried to walk out there, but the snow is knee deep...
