My newest potato harvest

This harvest is from two pots and four volunteer potato plants from my compost. I ran out of large pots and used what I had left. I used half compost and half potting soil.
When it didn't rain I gave them plenty of water. I planted them near the bottom of the pots then as they grew added more soil and compost.

I got the largest harvest of the season from the smallest pot. Less than five gallons. The plant got large even in such a small pot.

The potatoes were mostly at the very bottom.

This pic is from about a month ago. This plant got even larger. Yet I got twice as many potatoed from the small container above.

I've left the plants in the pots and they're doing fine. There were still some small potatoes growing, so I figured I'd leave them until I hear of a frost. I have four other pots growing too.

Wonderful! You have really encouraged me to try potatoes next year. I always thought I would have to have more space. Who knew you could grow potatoes in so little space!

I have a thread about my newly sprouted (forgotten about) potatoes from this spring. I believe I will try some outside to see what happens. Maybe I will put some in a bucket and see how that goes. Looks like you did alright, I should give it a try. I could even bring them inside.

By the way nice harvest from such a small growing space.

If you like potatoes, you have to try them anyway you can. I had a small harvest this year but they were absolutely awesome. As you know anything you grow yourself is soooooooo much better than anything you can buy. So do yourself a favor and give it a try.

Next year I will plant a little earlier and a lot more.

Thank you.
Potato plants will freeze just like tomato plants. I had some late ones last year and they froze.
I know we all can't wait until next spring. :)
