I could have sent you a stalk measuring 13' 8" at the moment... Local county fair is next month and barring any environmental or bird damage a couple are going. Indian corn variety, which one I am not sure as it was a "mix"... Some bloody big stalks and has an ear on it that's going to go at least 13"...
The 3 or 4 inches of rain I'm going to get today should really get the Dill Giants putting on some weight fast...

Congratulations on all your prizes and harvest!!! You worked hard and you and your wife deserve those awards!!! This week and next week are our fair up here, this week I really didn't have anything to havest except peas. I am hoping maybe I will have something to harvest next week when they have their second veggie harvest to put in the fair next week. If not I may try to put some baked stuff in next week. Next year I will definitely have something to put in next year because, I am going to start my garden earlier next year, so I will have some stuff to put in. Tammy

Thanks everyone, we love the fair, and await it each year like a kid waits for Christmas...
Simple pleasure for simple folks...we enter every year it is just fun to compete, but placing is GREAT
Stella, what I love is when they ask Us:
what did you feed them...
I say compost, horse and dead fish
Rootsy, 13' 8" that would be a winner for sure, best take it in to the fair...how much weight are your AG's putting on per day?
Don't you love it when they gain 20-30 pounds a day...
Tom, the stalks are averaging 3 ears per stalk, there are a couple with 4...
It's Bloody Butcher, and if you've ever had fresh ground meal from it...store bought will never taste the same, the red kernels grind into this excellent meal with a pinkish cast to it, YUMM. getting hungry thinking about it
Kgal... Wish I would have sent the last piece to SOMEBODY.....the cake was EXCELLENT; however, it wasn't as good after a week at the fair
(pass the pepto please)
Earlk and gixxerific...
well we entered 40 entries, and won 17 ribbons (and 63 $$) so there were many catagories we did not win in...
the culinary department had 747 entries alone, the vegetable and grains has over 600 entries...more this year than ever, the competition was tough...
and, we are, although NOT certified, 100% organic...so those folks with 20 pound cabbages and 5 pound potatoes...blew us out of the water
and I was bit surprized when my Rye Bread won the champion ribbon, because I also entered white bread, that I personally thought was Da bomb

thats funny Appestar...I have a campaign going that is similar...applestar wrote:Wow! and weren't you the one that mentioned how much work goes into preparing for a fair entry? Congrats!
I want to try growing that extra-tall corn!! I have a private campaign going to grow extra tall "grass" in my lawn every year.
If it's tilled...the mower can rest...
mo garden = less lawn
CW, our county fair is the biggest and oldest in the state...the crowds are pretty bad, we slip into a Luthern Churches parking lot (5 bux) that joins the grandstand where the exhibits are..check out the entries, grab a snack at a near by vendor...then we are Outa there...don't like crowds myself...lived in the sticks most of my life
