red pepper plants have white flies AND ants... why?

Hi, I just wanted to find out why all of my red pepper plants that have white flies are also infested with ants?
I remember reading about why ants hang around a plant that has white flies on it, but I do not remember what it said. Any info is appreciated.
Thanks!

Whiteflies are related to aphids and like aphids they (the larvae in this case I think) secrete a sweet, sticky substance called honeydew. The ants like this and protect "farm" the whiteflies to be able to keep a supply of it. Get rid of the aphids/ whiteflies and the ants will go away also.
