When can I harvest my spaghetti squash

My first spaghetti squash is about 50% yellow....its slowly been yellowing for about 2 weeks now...should I cut it off the vine and let it ripen on my counter? or does squash stop once its cut? I live in Southern California if location makes a difference. Thanks a lot
