What is the best material to put under my watermelons and canteloupes so they will not rot?.

Use something that doesn't soak up water. Some say cardboard or plywood.
If I remember right they don't really have a problem with rot on the ground, but there are soil borne disease that might affect them as well as bugs.
I put chunks of bark under mine just in case, I cut my own firewood so I always have plenty around.
Someone back me up or prove me wrong on the rot thing.
