Great photos and the answer to my prayers. I am growing squash for the first time in forever this year, pattypans. I got a late start, and I am going crazy trying to figure out where the squash come from and what I should be watching for. Based on your photos, it looks like these pattypans emerge right from the stem. So, any of the gazillion nodes I have on the stem and beneath a mature leaf could be a potential squash, right? I'd love to see photos of the entire plant if you have time

After viewing your photos, I went out and, on hands and knees, took a close look at the base of my plants. Now I understand how these beasties work. I have several small buds on each. They all look like males, but at least now I know what they are doing. Thanks!

Your harvest so far looks wonderful! I'm jealous at your tiny eggplant and your tomatoes! So far I've had nothing but blossom drop from my eggplant, and my tomatoes are flowering and just sitting there like dummies. Hoping for better luck. Enjoy your fresh food!

Garden and photos look great, similar to mine looked two months ago. Now my tomato vine are mostly drying up from disease. Everything else is stuggling with the heat, the drought, and the humidity. Still, way more tomatoes than we can eat continue to ripen. Squash are doing well as succession planting is now producing. Succession planting of cucumbers is just starting to produce. Peppers are a little slow but are providing a few pepper each day. Also the egg plants continue to stay ahead of us. So all in all, a very good gardening year so far. Will be hoping for a good fall garden as well. It is looking like August might be really tough on the garden, but will hope for moderate heat.

In pic 7 I noticed the fence you have. How is that working? I actually saw that exact fence at Lowe's last weekend and was thinking about getting it for mine next year. I liked how the bottom part had tighter bars to keep out some pests. But than what do you do about burrowers?

stella1751 I'm glad my photos did you some good. My pattypans have been producing slow. Ive only harvested a few but they were soooo yummy. Unfortunately, the zucchini plant has been over running it so its hard to get a pic of the plant without my zucchini butting in the way but I can still do it for you if you'd like

gixxerific- Yup I got the fence at lowes. You basically just hammer the rods into stakes into the dirt. It was pretty easy. I'm 24 103lb female and I did it on my own (for the most part) as well as hand dug my garden 3 ft down. I'm a tough cookie. As for burrowers....I have NO idea. I don't have that problem. Ive actually been pretty fortunate. No birds or squirrels messing with my produce of plants. They seem to mind their own business.

Yeah we don't have any big trees in my neighborhood, so no squirrels. It's a 3-4 year old subdivision. I've been here about 2 years. So far I have uncovered 5 (that I know of) rabbit holes in the yard. Not 2 month's ago I was cutting the grass when I scared up 4 young bunny's. They have been tearing up my sweet potatoes. But they keep coming back, the potatoes that is. Even eaten all the way to the ground, a week or so later there is a green leaf or two sticking out.

I live in MO near St Louis. I have tons of rabbits here, but last place had that and tons of squirrels. It is country right around us. Every day I see some big ass hawks flying around in the stratosphere. They need to come over to my yard though!

I don't have any trouble with rabbits or squirrels, but the coons are having a feast on my sweet corn.

Nope, Tinybu88les8, I got what I needed from your photos. I love experimenting with different plants, but it throws me off balance. How do you know whether you have the right balance of nutrients and the right amount of sun and water if you don't know what the plant is supposed to look like or to be doing at each stage of development? I see now, thanks to your photos, that I am on the right track. I seriously appreciate your having taken the time to post them. Now I am so excited about the flowers-to-come!
