Ignorantly planted tomatoes about 20 inches from potatoe plants--Then read on this forum that this can bring three years grief!
Should I just pull up the potato plants or is it too late? Thanks!

If you go to Golden Harvest Organics website, and go to companion planting you will find that tomato's and potato's are not good plants to grow together because all the diseases and pests are attracted to both plants.
companion gardening works because each plant has qualities that can either help another plant by attracting good bugs, or attract the pests and disease that will cause it's neighbour to die.
good companions are tomato's and carrots, and marigolds. carrot rust fly does not like the smell of tomato's or marigolds and nematodes that can distoy the carrot's root system are repelled by the marigolds.
hope this helps

The tomatoes will out grow the potatoes. Let it be and see what happens. The tomatoes are taller plants so they will get larger and shade the potatoes but by that time the potatoes will have already grown large and receive a lot of sun light so they may be fine. If the potatoes have a sun light shortage you may have small potatoes but that will be better than pulling them up and having no potatoes at all.
