why did my radish split

my first batch of radish was a sparkaling veriaty they turned out a decend size 1/2 cm`s down and about 1cm across. they were good. I got a diff veriaty to shake it up a bit an all red veriaty not sure what type.

they have grown crazy in last 2 days. so much the bottom split bang in the middle and split the root in to. it was about inch n a half down by about an inch acros realy large. compared to my others it looks like the grew so big they exploded. still it tasted great.

eny idea why or is this normal.

When they are growing really fast about 1/3 to 1/2 of my radishes split. As you say, doesn't hurt the taste. Am looking forward to late summer and fall to plant another few batches of radishes.
