spaghetti squash

my spaghetti squash plant has a big yellow bud thats just about to open. Does that mean a squash will be coming soon? Do the flowers fall off and a squash follows suit? I'm so excited!

Spagetti squash is like other squash and many vining vegetables, with both male and female flowers. The plant will need to have several flowers before a female gets pollinated and makes fruit. The female flower will have a miniature squash at its base. The male flowers will be long and thin at the base.

Yes, they look like it in the photo. On female flowers, there will be a little proto-squash where the flower joins the stem. The proto-squash ("bump") might be 1/4 inch or less, but it will definitely be there.
