potato sprouts
I have several potatoes leftover from last year's harvest which have sprouted beyond belief. When I looked at them today, the sprouts are between 9-12 inches long. Are these still good for planting? Should I just bury them deeper or use more straw for cover? Thanks.
Some of my potatoes last year were planted from "volunteer" sprouted potatoes in a bag in my kitchen.
They did pretty well, considering their rough start in life...
Recommended size for "seed" potatoes is two eyes or two inches. I don't know how large your potatoes are, but maybe cut them into two or three chunks so as to interfere with the sprouts as little as possible while *not* making any of them grow upside-down in the dirt.
