Heres the new garden!!!

I'm very excited about this year. I bought a new house, got married, and I'm off to start the new garden. I have a boxer puppy that loves to eat anything that I just planted, so kind of ironic, but I planted my garden inside a dog kennel. :? But I have some tomatoes, corn, peppers, strawberries, and cucumbers. I also have a bunch of pots that I started some stuff in and hopefully can plant them in the ground at some point, I just have to buy some plastic fencing material first.

So tell me what you guys think. I'm willing to change stuff around if needed. But I'm really looking forward to eating food I grew myself this year...

I know it's a mess, but this is where I started my peppers and a couple other flowers and stuff. It's just a place to put it until I get my patio poured pretty soon here...

This is my wanna be green house, but I had to make something in a pinch to keep the seedlings out of the cold, wind and rain. I would like to build a new one. P.S. I'm looking for building plans... :D

First off.......I hope the doggie pen was never used by a doggie? You wouldn't want to be planting into soil that dogs had been urinating etc on.

Spacing will be the biggest challenge in a small pen like that. The plants look so small to start off but soon they will be HUGE and fighting for space.

It all looks great fun! You can't have everything the first year for sure. I've lived here for 20 years and now do have a greenhouse and lots of nice beds worked in (and mountains of compost brewing all the time) but I started off with a cold frame much like yours, for a few years I grew the early seedlings in our screened in porch.......those were fun years using a light bulb to protect against the frost overnight and remembering to open things up in the mornings so they wouldn't cook in the daytime sunshine.

It looks like your going to have fun this summer. Remember failures teach you things......if you have a bit of trouble this year with some things pay attention, look up on the net to see what happened and try again next spring. It gets easier and you learn so much as the years go by.

Great post! I loved your pictures!

Yea, space is definately going to be a problem. I planted first, then did research (I know it's backwards) so I hope this year will be ok. Next year I will be able to change some stuff around to better fit everything in the whole side yard.

And no, the dog has never used it. We bought it for him, but before he used it, he quickly outgrew it. Not that he could get over it, but he is just too big physically to get him and a house in there.

Love seeing all of the pics...especially the messy ones! Let's me know I'm not the only one! Hopefully that Roma will grow so big that you'll just be picking the tomatoes from the outside of the kennel!
