I live for poop

I spread 2500 more lbs of composted manure in two garden plots today. That has to be one of the most satisfying tasks in the field of all human endeavor. Am I weird?

Was it cow fed alfalfa?
You have to love the sweet smell of that stuff!

If you're weird, then I am too! 8) I was very excited when, for my birthday last year, I got dirt! Compost (with manure in it) to be exact. My hubby and son put together a raised bed, and the dirt to fill was my birthday present!

I don't think you're wierd at all!!! If someone gave me composted manure to put in my raised beds this season I would be just as happy!

Chuck,
su_ju got poop for a birthday present. :!:
su_ju, that is the most incredible story I've ever heard. :o And you sound genuinely happy. :D
If I did that for my wife, she wouldn't talk to me for a year.
How is it I didn't set out to find a wife, I could give poop to for her birthday :?:

2cents, What, she wouldn't talk to you for years? I got to try that. Talk about befitting from someone else present. My wife already thinks I'm nuts. so I think she would just chalk that up as another nutty thing. I've went from a computer nerd to a garden turd. Nothing like keeping the garden full of nutrients. :) But she says she still loves me. Must be all the free veggies.

I love poop as well, but from a small flying mammal. I have over a half dozen occupied bat houses that produce about 2 gallon sized jugs of guano per season...more than enough for my 4x8' garden for two years!

How do you capture the guano?
Did you build a bat house?
Please let us know.

I have built and installed many bat houses and lead the bat house project at my local Nature Center. I just collect the guano from the ground under the houses every two weeks during the occupied season. With two of my bat houses having over 400 bats each in them, it doesn't take long to scoop up a gallon! I have had a 90% occupancy rate with my bat house designs so getting guano is usually an easy task for me.

I spent several happy days filling trailer loads of sheep and cow manure from a slurry pit and carting the lot in several journeys to my new garden about 200 metres away from the pit. Lucky it was earlier this spring otherwise flies would have ruined the experience.

Really enjoyed it… weird but at least now I know I'm not alone!

Chase them around in the dark with a bucket.

Bad smells are anarobic smells, and anoxic conditions are not good for plants...
