Root crops

I am planning on growing more root vegetables.
Some I've never grown before and looking for suggestions.
Turnips, Rutabagas, Parsnips.

Also looking for suggestions on big onions.

Sweet potatoes. last year was the first time. An after thought someone gave my 4 slips and I planted one whole potato.
It was out of this world. One was 3 lbs. Figure I was lucky, because the guy who gave me the slip got nothing out of his.
The spot I grew them has been completely reworked with compost.(maybe a mistake) Anyway the vines grow sooooo longgggg I want to put in another spot.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Sounds like you have the traditional root crops covered. Here is one that is not traditionally considered as a root crop. It is a stem crop, but it is cultivated in the same manner. It is kohlrabi and it has a sweet, water chestnut flavor. My wife slices it up and cooks it in a cream sauce. It kinda reminds me of a turnip. The variety I like to grow is "Early White Vienna".

As far as onions look no further than "Walla Walla Sweet". It is a nice big onion with a sweet, mild, juicy flesh. :)

Potatoes, of course! Many different varieties are available.

Parsnips.

Skirret.

Celeriac (aka celery root).

Beets. (again, many varieties)

Carrots.

Turnips.

Rutabaga.

Kohlrabi.

Onions.

Garlic.

Leeks.

Sweet potatoes.

Don't know whether radishes and daikon are considered "root vegetables," but they do grow under the surface. There may be other Asian vegetables, as well.

Plant what you like to eat.

Beets, potatoes, carrots, turnips, radishes, and onions are my favorites.

I planted an onion variety called "Big Daddy". I have never had onions so big.

Kohlrabi is also a good plant though the edible part is an enlarged stem. Good eaten raw or steamed.
