New member here. Can you help me identify this moldy growth?

Hi all,

I've discovered a moldy growth in the soil of my Kalanchoe. It hasn't blossomed in months and I think it doesn't get as much light as it needs. I'm hoping to move it to a west-facing balcony soon. Could you tell me what it is, is it harmful and how I can get rid of it? I'm very new to gardening. Thanks!

Probably some kind of slime mold. Not harmful. It is a sign that your soil is woody and is staying too wet. As you suggest, your plant needs more light and not to stay so moist all the time. You can just scrape up the mold and top layer of soil.

Looks like your soil is too wet which can cause mold formation.

Often called "dog vomit", this slime mold can be hosed off with a direct water stream, but then it would still be wet to invite more. Rake it out and dry off the area as stated above.
