Velvet mites

My partner has a vege garden as I care for a flower garden but one thing the soil is over run with is velvet mites (what google says they are) also look like spider mites I don't know if they are the same thing? Theres apparently two types one is okay and the other makes you itchy if you bitten I am not sure what we have here. Is there a natural way to get rid of them? Its like an invasion where you see hundreds of tiny red crawling bugs in the dirt.... (Okay maybe slight over exageration but there are alot)
We live in North of the Netherlands, provice Groningen, near veendam if that helps.
Thanks
