Too much water and not enough sun shine are the most common causes of brown leaves on palm trees.

Looks like an European Palm to me...I'm not 100% sure though.

And a quick tip: fertilize the palm tree once a week with store-bought fertilizer for trees or palms :)

Most palms like well drained soil. Make sure there isn't any standing water in the cache pot.

Yes, imafan26 is right! Make sure that your pot has drainage holes. If not, make sure to repot the palm into a pot with draining holes at the bottom so that you can check and see when you should stop watering it.

Indoor palms are quite hard to look after...the soil can't be too wet nor can it be too dry :) I would suggest watering once or twice a week. I water my two palm trees every Wednesday and Saturday every week. And use fertilizer once a month.

I think that would be a good idea. Just make sure that when you bring it out, the temperature indoors and outdoors isn't too different...or else this may cause stress to the palm.

Can we prune off the dead branches where the leaves went completely brown and dry ?

Yes, I have done that before. Just make sure to cut it off at the very bottom.
