What kind of bug is this?

I see this bug a lot in my garden. I don't know if it is harmful or beneficial. Thanks.

I don't know for sure and it's kind of an odd perspective on it.

But it just might be a milkweed assassin bug, in which case it is very definitely a beneficial (what it "assassinates" are the bugs you don't want)

Second, what types of plant(s) are you seeing this bug on the most?

Looks like an assassin bug.

Your location can be helpful because some insects are more prevalent in certain areas and less in others.
