What is eating my zucchini?

I live in the city of Baltimore, so there are rats and the occasional squirrel. The rats have not messed with the zucchini in my raised bed before but it is a definite possibility, but these seem like some pretty small chunks. I don't see any small insects but I could be missing them. Any ideas?

Unfortunately, anything & everything seems to love ripe or ripening fruits & vegetables. So what's attacking yours could be rats or squirrels or groundhogs (many are citified). All you can do at this point is cover your plants with floating row cover during the nighttime hours & uncover in the morning - at least for awhile - to allow pollination.

I found a zucchini like that half eaten. I suspect mine was eaten by snails.

Snails - at least not of the type found in Baltimore, MD - won't do the kind of damage shown in the photos. Notice the little chunks left on the ground. That's mammal damage beyond a shadow of a doubt.
