Help identify this insect

I found this guy on my cucumber plant. I didn't want to spray him with NEEM oil because I wasn't sure if he was beneficial or not. Can anyone identify him for me please

Thank you, Richard. I thought it looked like a bee also but was afraid it may be a moth. I did a little research and found it may be a carpenter bee which are found in CA. The article was a few years old so since then it has made it's way to HI.valley wrote:Looks like a bee to meee.
